Adson’s Test
The Adson’s test is used to demonstrate the presence of thoracic outlet syndrome due to compression of the subclavian artery within the scalene triangle. To perform the test, palpate the radial pulse and note its strength. As you continue monitoring the pulse, ask the patient to turn their neck toward the side being tested, then extend their neck and take a deep breath in and hold. The test is positive if a reduction in the strength of the radial pulse is detected, indicating subclavian artery compression.
