Ludington’s Test

Ludington’s test is used to detect the rupture of the long head of the biceps tendon. Ask the patient to place both hands on top or behind the head and interlock the fingers to support the weight of the upper arms. Palpate over the biceps tendons and ask the patient to alternately contract and relax the biceps muscles. This test is considered positive if either of the biceps tendons cannot be felt, indicating rupture of the long head of the biceps tendon.
