Yocum Test

The Yocum test is used to detect shoulder impingement syndrome.

The patient is asked to place the hand of the involved side on the opposite shoulder. The examiner then lifts the elbow upward.

This test produces internal rotation followed by flexion at the shoulder. Pain elicited at the shoulder as the elbow is raised is a positive result, indicative of shoulder impingement syndrome. As the elbow being raised, the earlier the pain is produced, the more severe the impingement.
